ABSTRACT

An Act of Parliament (or, to give it its other name, a statute) is part of the law of the land. It is in fact law made by Parliament. If Parliament wants to make a law on some matter on which there is no law, or if Parliament wants to alter the existing law, it does so by making an Act of Parliament. The Act of Parliament is the way in which Parliament sets out its decisions on what the law is to be.
