ABSTRACT

A child with British citizenship will be exempt from immigration control. This does not necessarily mean that it might not be considered reasonable by the Secretary of State to expect a child to leave the United Kingdom with a parent who is subject to immigration control, but the fact of the child’s citizenship will be an important countervailing factor against the enforced departure of a parent. It will also necessarily mean that the child will have no difficulty entering the United Kingdom at some future time, without the requirement of obtaining any form of entry clearance or leave.
