ABSTRACT
The 1993 Act and paras 327-52 of HC 395 as amended provide the procedures in respect of applications for asylum. In addition, there is published by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees a Handbook on Procedures and Criteria for Determining Refugee Status.The Handbook does not have the force of law in the United Kingdom but is frequently used as guidance by the immigration appellate authorities, and is a useful tool to assist in interpretation of the Convention.
