ABSTRACT
Human beings are more dependent, sociologists point out, on social organisation than is any other species; hence institutionalised social forms (law, State, etc) are of considerable significance in the life of a community. The study of law in its social setting, as a social institution, is the basis of the sociological approach to jurisprudence.
