Walter's machismo on full display.Walter takes the melody and a verse from Tampa Red's 1942 Bluebird recording, "You'reGonna Miss Me When I'm Gone," but adds his own tough edge. The first run through was later released as an alternate take, given the title "I Love You So," with the refrain "Oh baby, you gonna miss me when I'm gone/I thought that you loved me but you always treat me wrong" putting the blame on her while he swaggers away unconcerned. But a couple of verses later-"You was my first love, I thought you would be my friend !You gone and left me baby, I know this is the end"-shows that the boastful chorus was mostly wishful thinking.
