ABSTRACT

The chapter describes and discusses a method of incorporating self and peer marking in an undergraduate electronics subject with over 100 students. Although it is based on work which was undertaken some years ago, better examples of how to introduce self marking in a conventional class are rare. The use of self and peer assessment in a given subject requires a great deal of attention to the details of the procedure, especially if it is to be part of the formal assessment in the subject. The procedure described here requires the preparation of detailed model solutions and an extensive clerical procedure, but alternatives with a simpler clerical process are also possible. This example shows how evaluation data can be used to monitor the acceptance of a process over a three-year period.
