ABSTRACT

The strategic plan for learning outcomes project was established to explore ways of learning undertaken by students in terms of its outcomes. It is consistent with other university's educational and ideological objectives. The project saw itself as staff development exercise by encouraging collaborative reflection on the nature and purposes of subjects purposes of subjects in the university curriculum. To produce guidelines on learning outcomes, as a ripple approach to both curriculum and staff development would run in parallel, be iterative and incremental. The key issues of two broad categories is relating to the management of a development project, and relating to the substantive debates raised by outcomes-led curriculum. Since modular structures tend to over-assess, assessment planning for students can only be facilitated by disturbing assessment workloads across the module. This personal competence assessment as part of an integrated assessment package to articulate the relevant competences as module outcomes.
