ABSTRACT
Moderate left-wing party, f. 1973 by Prof. Juan Bosch when he resigned the leadership of and left the Partido Revolucionario Dominicana. After Bosch’s retirement, the PLD candidate, Leonel Fernández, won the presidency in 1996, but lacked a congressional majority.
