ABSTRACT

The Engineering Design Institute at Loughborough University of Technology offers a successful MSc programme in engineering design. Since the course started in 1991, it has attracted 30 full-time students per year and has built up a strong part-time population from students who are employed in industry. The most important aspect of the course that influences its ability to attract employed engineers is its structure, which is based upon one- week modules. The course consists of ten of these plus a major design project. Each module is self-contained, and covers a particular topic.
