ABSTRACT

Established in 1919, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) is the main umbrella body for the voluntary sector in England. NCVO works to support the voluntary sector and to create an environment in which voluntary organizations can flourish. Activities include advocating for the voluntary sector to policy makers and carrying out research to promote a better understanding of voluntary action. Other services include a free phone helpdesk, policy briefings, information networks, events and a wide range of publications including NCVO’s self-published magazine, Voluntary Sector. Inx 2004, NCVO had a membership of over 3,400 voluntary organizations.
