ABSTRACT

David Packard, born in Colorado (USA), was co-founder of the Hewlett-Packard Company; he retired in 1993 to become its Chairman Emeritus. Throughout his life and career, Packard was active in community and civic affairs. With his wife Lucile, Packard provided US $55m. to create the Monterey Bay Aquarium and attached Research Institute, and $40m. to build the Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital. In 1964, the couple also founded the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, which received a major portion of Packard’s estate upon his death.
