ABSTRACT

The active management of student learning, which the GNVQ curriculum model implies, involves the development of close relationships between teachers and students plus record-keeping systems which monitor student progress. Both of these require the development of sophisticated systems if you are not to be overwhelmed by the complexity of the task and the tracking of student achievement. This chapter examines a management of learning model proposed by the Further Education Unit (FEU) (1993b) which seems germane to GNVQ, the implications of that model and three examples of how different course teams have developed their own management systems. Looking at the model shown in Figure 4.1 will also be useful.
