ABSTRACT

Profiling of transferable skills was introduced on the modular BSc Applied Social Science degree scheme (SSS) over a period of three years. The SSS consists of seven named interdisciplinary degree routes with approximately 175 modules offered at preliminary, intermediate and final level. Several profile formats were discussed and piloted with staff and students and a final version introduced for students at preliminary level in 1994r-5. Intermediate and final levels will be covered by the profile from 1995--6. The profile operates at the 'programme' level and therefore stands apart from the direct delivery of individual modules. The development of the profile has involved extensive discussions about underlying aims and philosophy, operational principles, implementation strategies and evaluation among staff, students and employers. The following discussion outlines the background to and implementation of the profile.
