ABSTRACT
In the early morning hours of December 22, 1959, Chuck Berry was questioned by the St. Louis police; the report of the incident, written by district commander Captain Walter Eitzman, states that, in the upstairs restaurant, Escalanti had told officers Buford and Norton:
that she had been transported to this City from Texas by a Negro known as Chuck Berry, who at the present time was in the basement of the above restaurant, the officers then proceeded to the basement which is known as Chuck Beery [sic] Band Stand Club, where the above subject pointed out a Negro, who she stated was the man who brought her to this City From Texas, this Negro was placed under arrest and identified himself as Berry, Charles.
