ABSTRACT
To be an effective teacher you need to ensure that you achieve your lesson objectives. This means that the pupils should have learnt what you have tried to teach them, but how do you know whether they have learnt anything? Finding out what the pupils have learnt will involve you in assessment. It is how you evaluate what progress the pupils have made. You will want to know such things as:
what the pupil has understood
what skills the pupil has acquired
where the pupil stands in relation to other pupils
what the pupil knows now
what the pupil has not understood
where the gaps in learning are
whether the pupil is ready to progress to the next stage in learning.
