ABSTRACT

In September 1993, Staffordshire Careers Service decided to join the Careers Work Training Partnership (see Chapter 12) in order to support the development of careers education and guidance activities within schools. The approach seemed particularly suited to our needs because it requires participants to plan development work systematically in aspects of careers education and guidance, carry it out, gather evidence and reflect on the outcomes of the process, both in terms of their own learning and in evaluating the impact of their development work on the school. We felt that such an approach would enable practitioners to develop new skills and experience, as well as knowledge and understanding which is rooted in the workplace.
