From these examples, the importance of international organisations in such a functional, co-operative role can easily be seen. Indeed, these forms of organisation, dealing with non-political , functional matters, were among the first international organisations to come into existence in the nineteenth century, known as public international unions. Yet lOs play many other important roles as well.
