ABSTRACT

SUMMARY Technologies come and go, leaving very little except store cupboards full of obsolete hardware, and a small selection of inadequate and non-transferable courseware. To develop sustainable interactive learning based on multimedia courseware requires that it be designed to be reusable and transferable to other hardware platforms. Courseware engineering is leading to the development of management tools and metrics to support the development of reusable and transferable courseware. This chapter outlines research to investigate the cost of designing reusable and transferable multimedia courseware and the development of multimedia courseware metrics for cost estimation.
