ABSTRACT

The reality of war was inescapable on the home front. Ties of kinship or friendship with those who fought, food and fuel shortages, prices and wage inflation, taxes, currency depreciation, mihtary requisitions, war profiteering, and conversion to war production involved the citizenry at large. Despite their remoteness from battlefield zones, many persons gladly did their part to enhance the survival of the Revolutionary mihtary forces and probability of victory.
