ABSTRACT
Assignments often require students to respond in writing. Responses range on a continuum from a word or phrase through a sentence or paragraph right through to theses of tens of thousands of words. The challenges placed on students thus vary greatly, both in terms of the amount of content students have to generate and the ways in which they are required to organize it.
