ABSTRACT

We have made various references to portfolios, particularly in Chapters 22 and 23, but they are of growing importance and so are worthy of a chapter to themselves. Here we cover:

what might be included in a portfolio

the various uses to which portfolios can be put.

We then look at three of these uses in more detail:

use within national vocational qualifications

the more traditional portfolio

portfolios to demonstrate learning achievement.

We conclude the chapter with a summary of the benefits of using portfolios within assessment.
