ABSTRACT

Assessment takes place during the fourth stage of the learner-centred assessment process. It is the critical activity on which the entire system rests. To no small degree, the credibility of the outcome depends almost exclusively on the validity, reliability and fairness of the assessment process. For this reason, it is essential that those planning to establish a sound flexible assessment service learn about and adhere to principles of good practice in assessment. Many of these principles are reflected in the assessor units of the TDLB standards, which are referred to throughout this chapter.
