ABSTRACT

Biochemistry is often a difficult subject for nursing students, particularly those with a weak chemistry background. In addition, students are normally only newly acquainted with the fine structure of the cell, also necessary for understanding the biochemical processes discussed in the unit. Introductory biochemistry in the Curtin Nursing course involves 90 to 130 students per semester and is taught in the second semester of first year. In the past, Nursing biochemistry was taught by lectures and tutorials, and much time was used transferring simple factual material. (Slack-Smith and Fox, 1993)
