ABSTRACT

An adult son who feels his father didn’t love him may suppose that if only his father had really been loving, he would already “really know” his father. Such a son, feeling bereft of a father’s love, may then become intent on trying to “get to know” his father, trying to understand “what made his father tick,” trying to fathom what was going on inside the father during all those years the son did not get “enough” of the father’s love-as if the info would make up for it.
