ABSTRACT

We have strong memories of sitting in lectures, feeling sleepy and bored. When we looked around at the other students, some were completely involved in the lecture, others taking copious notes and others were asleep. What are the features of students and learning contexts which influence the students’ responses to teaching situations? For example, what are the consequences of bad marks for students’ motivation? Do students expect teachers to motivate them? Are there differences in students’ motivation between different Higher Education institutions?
