ABSTRACT
Throughout Parts I and II, I argued that complex syncretic cultural forms are developing within urban settings. These ethnicities need to be understood in specific local contexts where traditions are being re invented. Although an appreciation of the importance of local factors is essential to the argument put forward so far, these cultural pro cesses also need to be understood in the context of an international traffic in cultural meanings and meaningful forms.
