ABSTRACT
The assessment of students' work in higher education is one of the most important aspects of teaching and learning but it can also be one of the most resource-intensive. If CIT is to produce real savings in staff time and resources then Computer Aided (or Assisted) Assessment (CAA) systems will play a key role. The Internet has given a new lease of life to some forms of CAA as well as stimulating the development of others.
