ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors report on the experience of Middlesex University in providing opportunities for students to take responsibility for key aspects of their own learning. Two examples are described; one in mainstream campus-based studies for undergraduate students, the other largely off-campus in work-based learning. By comparing the use of learner managed learning in these two contrasting contexts, the writers have identified common features which throw light on the process as a whole.
