ABSTRACT
The rest of this book will move outwards; it will look more widely at the social and cultural context of closure. I have already discussed much of this context. I have referred to wider social structures and changes, including the structure of late medieval society at the level of the upper peasant household, as well as the forces of change at work within and transforming this structure.
