Status, class and relations between houses

If the household was a little commonwealth, so the parish was a little community; both were modelled in terms of political thought on the state. Households and their architectural frames therefore need to be examined in a wider sense. We need to ask how contemporary larger and smaller houses differed from one another and what this may tell us about the relations between their inhabitants.
