ABSTRACT

Is there a notion in education and training that qualitative assessment is in some way inferior to quantitative assessment? Do you consider qualitative assessment a simile for informal assessment? While the two processes of assessment are different, for both qualitative and quantitative assessment to be meaningful a similar rigour is required. The key when collecting qualitative data is to determine the type of data you are going to gather. In making this decision you will have to determine if the data are valid and how the data can be made valid, systematic and reliable.
