ABSTRACT

This chapter will guide the trainee through the requirements and development of classroom management skills. It shows that to reach the required standards trainees, with the help of their mentors, need to constantly reflect and reconsider what they do in the classroom in order to minimize disruption and create effective learning environments. The emphasis is on the trainee understanding the relationship between pupil behaviour and classroom management skills, by focusing on issues such as rules and routines, positive climates for learning, relationships, motivational aspects and strategies for monitoring classroom behaviour.
