ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the trainee to the nature and context of planning and preparation. Following the standards set out in Circular 4/98, it shows the trainee the importance of planning and the role it has to play in becoming an effective and responsible facilitator of learning. A variety of planning models are considered, with each model highlighting areas of possible development for the trainee. Pedagogical and subject knowledge are discussed with respect to planning aims and objectives. Preparation is considered from the perspective of being a successful and competent teacher.
