ABSTRACT

This is the main route into broadcast journalism for ‘beginners’. A pre-entry course is one which is taken before the candidate embarks on a career in journalism but does not automatically guarantee a job. Among the most popular and respected courses are those offered by the National Council for the Training of Broadcast Journalists (NCTBJ) although others are being set up which are advertised in the national press. These courses vary in length and content. In addition, a number of undergraduate degrees are being established which offer journalism and/or broadcasting as an option. Before we look at these other courses, let us first examine the NCTBJ more closely.
