ABSTRACT

No neurologist had seen her before and her medical practitioner did not know of any history of paroxysmal events in the past. She was taking antihypertensive and cardiac medications.

The EEG showed continuously repeated runs of generalized 3-Hz spike-andwaves lasting up to 10-20 seconds. The short periods of interspersed activity revealed no gross abnormalities. Absence status was diagnosed and intravenous diazepam was administered, with prompt resolution of the status epilepticus.
