ABSTRACT

Our present knowledge suggests that in mood and anxiety disorders the important neurotransmitters are noradrenaline (NA), serotonin (5-HT), dopamine (DA) and -aminobutyric acid (GABA). This section summarizes how each neurotransmitter is synthesized and metabolized, their principal receptors and major pathways in the brain.
