ABSTRACT

The incidence of CHD in type 2 diabetes is increased by a factor of 2-4.4 Furthermore, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes is at least 2-3-fold higher in patients with established CHD than in the general population.2 A recent study has also demonstrated that patients with type 2 diabetes and no previous history of CHD have the same relative risk of suffering an acute myocardial infarction as non-diabetic patients with a proven history of CHD.5
