ABSTRACT
For the technical, METTNET® is Wirral Metropolitan College’s (WMC) college-wide network covering some six sites, with additional links to a local school, and incorporating 1,500 PCs, 30 file servers and over 100 networked CD-ROMs, networked sound and video, local and Internet e-mail, and access to the Web on any one of its 1500 workstations. It has ‘evolved’ over the last six years. This evolution has taken place within certain parameters that have ensured that the main aim of the network (which is to support the learning of WMC’s students) has been retained.
