ABSTRACT

Dance video festivals around the world find young artists tapping into a collective energy that in all its swirling confusion is creating a new language. The language of dance on film and video does not yet have a tidy set of grammatical rules or rulemongers, but clearly it has the potential to capture and express what neither live dance nor traditional film can. As a blossoming form of communication, it is a force causing both partners-the dancer and the filmmakerto appreciate dance video as an offspring with all the growing pains of a brilliant but awkward adolescent. Where is the collaboration going? What is the future for this art?
