ABSTRACT

Combined nerve lesions in the upper limb result in severe functional loss. Direct sutures or nerve grafts generally give partial results at the level of the hand.

This chapter describes the choice of palliative procedures to improve the function of the hand in low and high combined nerve paralysis. The paralysis of the shoulder and elbow that occurs with brachial plexus injury or proximal nerve injury (axillary, subscapularis, musculocutaneous) has been excluded: direct suture or more frequently nerve graft of these proximal nerves gives quite good results because the motor units are close and thelr function is essentially muscular.
