ABSTRACT

When children of different age groups are taught in a single room, it is normal for the older children to assist in the teaching of the younger children. This chapter describes how this principle can be used within a modern higher educational establishment. Student course representatives acquire the skills they require for their role by participating in training provided by experienced students. These experienced students provide both training and facilitation to aid their colleagues' learning. A description is given of some of the concerns that need to be addressed in establishing this training. It is proposed that for effective learning a community must be created in which all participants are equally important.
