ABSTRACT
The Marine Chemist program represents a unique partnership between industry and government that originated nearly seventy years ago. The Marine Chemist performs a service essential to the overall safety of the entire maritime industry. He anchors a program that recognizes, evaluates and controls health, fire and explosion hazards associated with the repair and construction of marine vessels. His primary objective is to preserve and promote safety to life, limb and property within the marine industry. He is now recognized as a specialist in confined space entry safety and the related atmospheric testing or sampling. Today's program serves as a model for cooperation between government and industry and showcases the Marine Chemist as a multitalented safety and health professional.
