ABSTRACT

In the previous chapters in the book I have been putting forward views on developing teaching and learning material on the Internet. It is about time some consideration was given to the learner. In this chapter, I am considering the learner as being post-compulsory school age or at least having had some experience of formal education. This should not be seen as an assumption of the educational level of the learner. For example, anecdotal reports suggest that many adult learners have a bad school experience and seek to use other means of learning, such as distance education and now the Internet, to avoid further face-to-face school-type experiences.
