ABSTRACT

All things being equal, everyone should learn to read early and easily and with great pleasure. All things are not equal, and there are many for whom learning to read becomes a barrier, both to their intellectual development and their self-esteem. There are difficulties in learning to read, both psychological and academic, which this book explores, and which can be overcome. But there are other external influences that can do a great deal of harm. It is important to be aware of these.
