ABSTRACT

UF foam deteriorates continuously at a moderate to rapid rate so it has a short life compared with other building materials. The rate of deterioration depends on the conditions to which it is exposed. In

residential applications, the factors most likely to accelerate degradation are high temperatures and high humidities. Temperatures such as those encountered in a roof space on a summer day cause rapid deterioration. High humidity resulting from the ftow of warm humid air from the living spaces into insulated cavities also causes accelerated degradation. UF foams have a high water absorption and a high water vapour permeability.
