ABSTRACT

Being involved in a distress emergency, either as the recipient of aid or as the donor, can be a traumatic experience which most mariners would be happy to forego. With lives in the balance, the actions of those involved must be both prompt and correct, and towards this end the mariner should have a good working knowledge of the basic procedures to be followed. These procedures are contained in three important publications:
