ABSTRACT

The Omega navigation system is a long range electronic position fixing system based on hyperbolic principles. There are no ‘chains’ as with Decca and Loran, but eight transmitting stations provide worldwide coverage working in pairs (any station being able to pair with any other station), thus effectively providing 28 combinations and therefore 28 separate lattices. The transmitting stations have been so placed that at any position there will be at least three lattice lines giving a satisfactory angle of cut (Figure 8.1).
