ABSTRACT

In a recent experiment we confronted children, adolescents and adults with nine photographs of different male persons on a tableau. The appearance of these men differs greatly. They wear dissimilar clothes, have different hair styles, their faces vary in shape and expression. One of them looks very sinister, has long hair and a cigarette in the corner of the mouth; another has a moustache and is very skinny; one is a laughing Black person, one a policeman, one a priest; one of the men carries glasses while talking, another resembles Fidel Castro. We told our subjects that one of these persons is a criminal, and we asked them to guess who it could be.
