ABSTRACT

In recent years outreach health education has come to be viewed as both a central and essential component of wider HIV prevention strategies. But despite this, there is a dearth of published material about the nature and comparative efficacy of national or international interventions. This chapter aims to redress this imbalance by developing a descriptive typology of models of HIV outreach health education in Europe and the United States. This provides a context within which preliminary judgments about the efficacy of differing outreach models and strategies can be made.
