ABSTRACT

The learning potential of what we have called ‘passages of intellectual search’ is well illustrated in the following long episode, in which the child’s confusion about the relationship between money, work and consumer goods was exposed, and to some extent clarified. The conversation started while Rosy and her mother were having lunch, and was triggered off by the appearance of the window-cleaner in the garden. Rosy’s mother went off to the kitchen to get him some water, and called out to her neighbour, Pamela.
